Blue Mounds State Park in Wisconsin

The Blue Mound State Park is one of the major tourist attractions in the US state of Wisconsin and in the United States of America in general. It is located on the southern part on the tallest hill in the state which lies approximately 25 miles to the west of Madison; the capital of the state.

The park measures 1,153 acres and is very popular for mountain biking, camping, swimming, hunting, cross-country skiing and solitude among others. Its high point gives you a very clear of the geographical features and picturesque of this state.

The park lies on the border and is between two major ecological landscapes in the state; most of the landmass of the park lies to the Southwest Savanna while the rest lies in the Western Coulee. You will have clear view of these two major ecological features if you visit the park. It is a protected area under the Wisconsin state laws. It offers various facilities to ensure that visits and holidays to the park are superb. You can dine, drink, dance, ride, ski and do any other recreational activity if you so wish.

The park gives visitors the opportunity to watch the Baraboo Range and the Wisconsin River. To the north of the park you will clearly view the buttes and mounds. To the west and south lies the forest. To the east lies the Madison city which is the capital of Wisconsin and also the beautiful glacial plains. This park is unique and special in the state of Wisconsin in that it comprises a very large swimming pool which is the only one in the state.

This park is ideal to visit during the summer season. It offers exciting sporting and relaxation facilities. The picnic area comprises of a nature center which features a collection on the natural historical exhibits.

How to get to the Blue Mound State Park

Located about 25 miles to the west of capital city of Wisconsin, Blue Mound State Park can be accessed by road through 18/151 US Highway. On this highway, drive northwards till you reach the County Highway F road. On reaching the County Highway ID, turn left towards the Blue mounds. Drive westwards on highway ID for approximately half mile till you get to Mounds Rd. At this point, turn northwards to the right then follow the Mounds Rd. and head northwards to the town. On leaving the village, the Mounds Road is now referred to as Mounds Park Rd. The entrance to the park is approximately one mile to the north of the intersection of Mounds Rd. and Highway ID.

You can also ride or walk to the park if you so wish. The park is not so mountainous so you just need a medium powered bike and you will get there easily. If you decide to travel this way you can use a state trail called Military Ridge. The access trail to the park is located approximately 7 miles to the west of the Mounds Park Rd. (on Military Ridge Trail).
